It was only a matter of time....
From Drkwz: I don't like sports....
Sports:
I am against sports. I do not state this due to my physical status or to my ability to comprehend game play. I judge sports on thier contribution to humanity. Sports promote ignorance. Many high school students go to college only for the reason that they play sports, even though they may lack scholarly knowledge. This is detrimental to society by promoting ignorance. Sports players are required to have a 'C' average in most cases, this does not prove to be a difficult task. When a student goes from playing a high school sport to getting a scholarship to play at a college, this takes away from the possible money from those students with superior intellect, and gives it to the far less deserving. But physical superiority is just as good as mental capabilities some might say; I see this not to be true. What can a sports player do that a normal person cannot? "They could kick your ass or kill you easily" is usually a typical response, I would like to say that when each person has a gun, size or physical condition does not matter. Others offer that sports are a good way to keep in good health. This statement I agree with but offer this: playing sports for exercise is nothing noble, if it is to become healty then why should we reward this, it still contributes no benefit to society. So what we have so far is that sports players take money from those more deserving and are accepted into college. The colleges then spend an extreme amount of money to build statiums, this is also a waste. This stadium money could go back into the school or further scholarships. Hell, the money would be better spent giving the instructors paid vacations. Our society has produced many so called "great sports players". What makes them so great? They can throw a ball better than others, or run faster? These attributes are meaningless and have no beneficial purpose in the real world. Who cares what they can do? I care what they can do for us as a society. Endless money and space is wasted on stadiums, advertising, sports wear, and everything else that goes with it. This waste of space and money could easily prove to help society, or at least lessen our taxes. If we didn't have sports where would we be? We would be in a world where the idnorant do not get a free ride, where money is used to benefit culture and the sciences, and not to get a ball from one place to another.
This all sounds beter to me, but i know someone out there has some reasons why sports are good. I want to hear them so please EMAIL US, with any comments or responses.
